Ladies and Gents we proudly present-
Doctor Mechanic!

Just a new costume design I'm working on. He needs to be made for August 17th and I for one am hugely looking forward to making him. His main features are: Mechanical arms, X-ray eye with added diagnosis vision, voice modulator diaphram and coal powered arm drill.
I'm the one who posted the Khaos Krew back in May, just to give you an idea of what sort of things I can do. Doctor Mechanic will be a challenge in a lot of ways, specifically doing the arms and most of the electrics required. I am most looking forward to his corset, mainly because there are not enough man corsets around.
Pictures as soon as I can take some at the shoot on Friday.

any one remember Gershiwa from battle angel? :D
Well, the only phrase I know en français is "Je suis le grand fromage," but I like the French well enough. Much thanks for sending us Mssr. Lafayette back when, y'all.
But my favorite French thing? I'd say Jean Chrétien, but he's not French French, so I guess I'll say... the concept of liberalism. Or croissants. Either one, really. They're both nice.

I do apologize for the wrinkles, I didn't know it was packed away... and when it was freed from it's tote, the iron is no where to be found. *sigh* My house is full of boxes.... Please forgive my wrinkles.

First, sorry for the mad cross posting, second, if this is not appropriate for this community please feel free to delete it. I just wanted to get the word out to as many creative, passionate people as possible! Thank You!
I am directing a production of Steven Dietz's Dracula for Halloween weekend in New York City and I am looking for a Costume Designer/Wardrobe Supervisor. I have an idea of what I am looking for as far as color palette goes, however the design element would be entirely left up to you. I am looking to incorporate some steampunk elements into the show, going for more victorian-styling rather than a specific Victorian era. I am extremely open to new and innovative ideas, you would have several people working under you for costume construction. (and if you are interested in working construction please let me know) If you are interested in applying for the position please send any questions you might have, as well as your resume or past experience to spongetheatricals(at)gmail(dot)com
We are also looking for Prop makers, painters, running crew and extra hands if you are interested in building you resume and working on what is shaping up to be an amazing show!
So this is what we're looking for...
On July 24th, and July 29th-31st, a 35mm Tim Burton-esque short film about Cordelia Botkin, San Francisco's notorious Victorian-era female serial killer, will be shooting at the Arboretum and San Pedro courthouse.
The film is set in a stylized, slightly askew world and we're looking for people with steampunk and victorian costumes to populate the park and be featured audience members in the courtroom.
It's super low budget, but we can offer copy/credit/and meals and the chance to work on a fun project with a dedicated crew. Please contact Eric Bergemann eric.bergemann@gmail.com or 917-657-1769 for more info.
The LA Weekly has a great write-up about it here:

The Timekeeper's Daughter-- The Way Home II
Every so often she would wear his key about her neck; the worn brass bore the marks of her fingerprints and the warmth of her skin. Acquaintances reckoned it odd and speculated in the salons-- what could it be? An inheritance? The key to an attic filled with riches? A relic? Such an odd girl, but so pretty-- cheeks like roses and eyes that gleamed topaz like jewels.
In truth, the key was more fantastical than anyone could ever suspect. The life of a Timekeeper is not easy. She wore the key for one simple reason-- so that no matter where she was in time or place, she could find her way home.
____________
This necklace features an antiqued brass key hung with a curio bottle, a tiny key, brass findings, and fire-polished glass rounds. It measures 20."
Warmly,
Christina

Ok this is not realy steampunk, more dieselpunk perhaps certain folk would say.
I thought I would post it none the less.
It's a piece I am working on for a contest. I wanted to create somthing envoked by the likes of Rocketeer. This is the result. She used to have a jet pack but I ditched it as it was messing the comp up.
Right.
So. I am new to the steampunk thing, and sorting out my outfit. As many of the victorian/edwardian fashion needed waiflike figures, Im pretty SOL. Im not big, but am certainly not boy like in my build. I LOVE corsets, and have several. However, they are all mideval in style, and Im not sure how to convert them to Steamyness. While in the mall the other day, I fell in love with this, sorta.
Now, as a rule, I dislike Fredricks corsets. They arent super quality, but the LARP Im jumping into is only a couple of sessions. And it comes in NEON yellow and green.
Is something wrong with me for wanting to work this in to a costume? Do you guys think I could make it work somehow? Im thinking black riding pants or bloomeresque pants, knee high combat boots, and, uh, some other stuff. Likely going for a slightly haughty librarian/academic look.
please, dont judge me! :)
Input for the newbie welcome, seriously.

Now I'm just looking for a little help, mostly in accessorizing. I'm trying to do an aristo/explorer type, and I'm not completely sure what accessories to be looking for.
I'm also looking to make myself some goggles, but haven't really found a tutorial that really suits my fancy.
I've posted a picture of myself from a photo shoot from this past weekend in Bridgewater, with my top hat, because I'm very happy with it. While the photographer was scouting out a good spot to take some pictures, I put my sunglasses on my hat, which he loved. We got a handful of pictures of me like that, and I feel very steamy in them, haha.
( Picture behind the cut, for your convience. )
So, a bit about myself now that I've babbled on about other things:
My name is Pixie, and I've been lurking here about a week. Finally got the courage to post, especially once I saw how this picture came out. I live in upper Mass during the summer/holidays, and down in Rhode Island during the school year. Still have one year left, at which point I'll be a licensed drama teacher. I work at King Richard's Faire (Sept/Oct), and love going to ren faires, usually as a pirate. I have my own costume design company, but it's pretty low key at the moment. I'm hoping to expand once I'm done with school.
Alright, that's all I can think of for the moment!!

These come on hair clips or headbands, to be worn as costume head wings for any costume, club wear, or for your lolita coordinates.
All of our wings are made from high quality sintra plastic, cut by hand and sanded down to a smooth finish, then heat formed to the desired shape. We use only the best paints - these are colors from Rustoleum's line of metallics. I love the little flecks of glitter in all these paints. The resulting finish is simply gorgeous. After several coats of paint we seal the wings with a coat of clear gloss for a super shiny finish.
If you're interested in a custom pair of wings in any color or style, you may send me a note on BG or email me at Laura@OutlandArmour.com
I'll be putting these up for sale on our Etsy after Otakon, but for now I'm offering them exclusively to readers of
Thanks for looking! <3

just saw this today, and though maybe some of you guys might appreciate it.
As mentioned a few weeks ago, Australian magazine "Fiend" has a Steampunk theme this issue, and I co-ordinated the Sydney fashion shoot. (More Victorian, with a hint of steam, admittedly)
I haven't got scans of the mag pages, but here is a mock-up of my original proposed photos and storyline. In the end, the story part wasn't used (although 7 images were), but I hope you find it amusing! We certainly had fun shooting it :)

The hat I made for my Steampunk Lolita costume; it's a bit much for this outfit but I wore it because I haven't gotten around to making another steamy headpiece yet. Hair was a bit flat at the end of the day; I just swept it up into a quick n' dirty Gibson-girl type swirl and didn't have any rats.
The blouse is a funny story - it's silk satin, really well made. I used to work for an employment agency where we'd help create business opportunities for immigrant women, and one previous project had been a costume shop. There were all these costumes left over that nobody wanted, so I acquired a bunch of them. That was over 10 years ago and most of the stuff (some of it involved...questionable colour choices) has since been given away through successive moves, but for some reason I managed to keep the 1890s blouse despite not knowing what on earth to do with it. And then Friday came around and I thought "Hm I need a blouse that's more Victorian-looking...wait..." LOL
