My own personal daguerrotype

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 7:56 PM
I'd gotten this image from the photo salon at SteamCon:

SteamCon 2009

They offered a choice of color or sepia tone, but didn't have the capability of showing you what the image would look like in sepia. I opted for the color version and decided I'd play with it myself later.

Here's what I did )

But that wasn't what I really wanted. I wanted what looked like an old daguerrotype. Luckily I have a friend with mad Photoshop skills. I forwarded her the image, and this is what she came up with:

She's got examples of the kinds of work she can do posted to her journal here.

Hello all fine steampunkers of the world wide web,

xD so here is one of my sketchs,

  • 20:12 I have to say, he's very good at his current job, but I wouldn't vote him into public office if my life depended on it. #

Signal Boosting!

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 9:00 AM
I am just posting a quickie today to boost a couple of signals (because signal boosting is fun and ought to be done more often):

1. ICFA Scholarship for PoC (link found via the awesome [info]shweta_narayan ) -- The theme of this year's International Conference on the Fantastic in Arts is "Race and the Fantastic", and the wonderful guest of honor are Nalo Hopkinson, Laurence Yep, and Takayuki Tatsumi. Click on the link for the scholarship details (this scholarship is pretty inclusive of all convention expenses, including airfare)(is that not just awesomeness?).

2. Clarkesworld Citizenship Drive -- For a small donation, you can become a Clarkesworld citizen! Okay, I have personally been a bit awful about keeping up with short story reading lately, but Clarkesworld still remains one of my favorite short story locations. Go check it out!

Alright, I'm going to go wrap a cat around my head and see if that helps my headache (because there's nothing better for a headache than a clawed furball of doom).

Steampunk at Doctor Sketchy's in Denton

I'll be vending this event. Additionally, the model (Glam Amour) will be wearing a couple items of my making and one of the performers (Zamra) will be wearing an entire outfit designed by myself and my wonderful partner Luscious Eve.

Halloween 2009 - My First Steamy Effort

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 10:00 AM
I discovered Steampunk fairly recently, but it feels like something I've been looking for for a long time. I just wanted to post my Halloween pics (since that's is one of my favorite parts of this blog; all the pictures of peoples outfits). There are just two, and I blocked my face ONLY because I am not photogenic, and they were just...bad.

Hallowe'en in Boston

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 10:59 PM
My best friend, [info]singswithtrees ,and I live in Portland Oregon... but for reasons too numerous (and FAR too involved) to mention, we decided we shouldspend more money than we actually have and got to Boston and Salem Massachusetts for a week!
We dressed up in Victorian clothes (mostly 1890's) the entire time (except a day and a half to rest)

Clockwork Couture dress at Masquerade Ball

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 7:37 PM
So, every year, my school throws a Masquerade Ball, and I had a new dress from Clockwork Couture burning a hole in my closet. Not a particularly Steampunk outing, but I do love the crossover appeal of the dress. Pics after the cut, mask from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

More pics after cut! )

(Next post will be of Steampunk Icarus costume, I promise!)
